Meet Esmeralda. Our Sweet Esme, Our Nana...
Esmeralda L. Romero was so much more than a name, a photograph, or a tragic headline. She was a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, a girlfriend, and a friend. She was a beautiful soul with a heart full of love, with a contagious spirit, and a way of making the people around her feel special.
Born on June 29, 2004, Esme lived her 22 years with a love for life, a heart for others, and a faith in Jesus that became part of who she was. She loved adventure, spending time with her family and friends, going to the gym, and making memories with the people she loved. She had a special place in her heart for children and a natural ability to care for others.
Esme wasn’t perfect, but she never needed to be. She was real. She had dreams, plans, a personality all her own, and an entire future ahead of her. She loved deeply, laughed freely, and left an impression on people in ways she probably never realized.
On July 20, 2026, her life was tragically taken by an act of senseless violence. In an instant, our family was forever changed. But while the circumstances of her death are part of our story, they will never define hers.
Esme’s life was filled with so much more than the way it ended. Her love continues to live through her family, her friends, the memories she left behind, and now through the foundation created in her honor.
Esmeralda’s Light of Hope Foundation exists because her story deserves to be remembered for the life she lived, the love she gave, and the light she carried. Through that same love, we hope to bring comfort, compassion, and hope to other families facing unimaginable loss.
Because Esmeralda was here. She was loved. She mattered. And her light will continue to shine.

Esmeralda’s Light of Hope Foundation was born from unimaginable heartbreak, but its purpose is rooted in faith, compassion, and the love Esme so freely gave to others.
Our mission is to provide financial assistance toward funeral and burial expenses for families who have lost a child or young adult under the age of 25 to violent crime, with special consideration for single mothers facing this devastating loss.
We know firsthand that no amount of support can take away the pain of losing a child. But we also know what it means to have someone show up when your world has been turned upside down.
Through this foundation, we hope to ease some of those burdens, remind families they are not alone, and carry forward the beautiful legacy Esme left behind.
Because every life matters, every family deserves compassion, and even in the darkest moments, there can still be light.
